Websites

Global IPEP website
This is the global IPEP site. It has information about the aims and outcomes of the Project, a ‘What’s new’ section, list of partners and countries participating in the project. Of particular use is the IPEP online library, which has many documents (available in Arabic, English, French, Russian and Spanish) and links to external sites. The website also has a comprehensive resource section on POPs.

International POPs Elimination Network, or IPEN
IPEN (or International POPs Elimination Network) is a global network of public interest non-governmental organisations united in support of a common POPs Elimination Platform. The mission of IPEN is to work for the global elimination of persistent organic pollutants, on an expedited yet socially equitable basis.

IPEN’s Participating Organisations are those NGOs which have endorsed the IPEN Stockholm Declaration, agreed on May 22, 2001, in Stockholm (or those which have endorsed the previous POPs Elimination Platform).

There is an easy-to-browse document library, with resources listed under the categories of dioxins, PCBs and waste, pesticides, community monitoring and IPEN documents. The news centre has present and archived news, and a link to IPEN events and meetings puts you in touch with events around the world.

You can also check out the Participating Organisations of IPEN. In addition, you can go to the IPEP site at the click of a button.

Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)
The Stockholm Convention is a global treaty to protect human health and the environment from persistent organic pollutants (POPs). POPs are chemicals that remain intact in the environment for long periods, become widely distributed geographically, accumulate in the fatty tissue of living organisms and are toxic to humans and wildlife. POPs circulate globally and can cause damage wherever they travel. In implementing the Convention, governments will take measures to eliminate or reduce the release of POPs into the environment.
